A Name to Say it All

Tapping into our naming services

When Jen came to us to help give her business an upgrade, she had a few things she needed our help with. First, she wanted to move away from using her name as the moniker, opting to explore more creative options.

One of the services we offer at Nicola Black Design, LLC is Business Naming Assistance services. An offering that allows us to be on the ground floor with you to more deeply inform the overall strategy involved in strategizing and executing design for more robust and effective visual brand identities.

Naming services involve a lot of brainstorming, iteration, playing, and research. On top of that, we conduct focus group testing to see which names land the best and produce the best emotional response.

Brand Color Assignments

A system to apply to multiple offerings

Businesses are multi-faceted. Within the umbrella of your brand live subcategories of offerings you may want to stand on their own. For Woven, Jen is working with a few subcategories; a newsletter, talks and workshops, one-on-one coaching, group coaching, team coaching, and more. To keep collateral cohesive, we developed a brand color reference for these subdivisions in addition to the rest of the Visual Brand Identity seen below.

Assigning each division their own colors creates a subconscious reference point for her audience and clients. A benefit of implementing intentional combinations and color cues throughout brand collateral is ease of navigation and guidance for your viewers. All of this is done within and to complement the overarching brand as a whole.

A Hand-Crafted Word Mark

A short and sweet business name is best for an impactful design. Since we were in on the ground floor during the naming process for Woven, we were able to help guide the process for a visually interesting word mark.

Five letters, a mix of sharp and soft edges, and a name evoking tactile imagery gave us a ton of space to play. Materials like yarn, thread, needles, and more filled our initial pages of inspiration. The flow and bounciness of these materials aligns with Woven’s ease and playfulness in their coaching approach. So we opted for a light-hearted, soft, gentle, and slightly textured word mark to express these notes.
