Freelancers Union Philly/SJ Spark 9/7 Recap
September 2016 marked the first month of Nicola Black Design, LLC and Maki Naro co-leading the Philly/SJ Freelancers Union Spark Events. It was a ton of fun! Bringing freelancers together to discuss “How to Protect Your Intellectual Property with Basic Terms of Agreement” made for an incredible discussion. A big thank you to Haddonfield Public Library for being our venue sponsor – have you seen their newly renovated space? If not, get a quick tour while attending one of our upcoming Freelancers Union Spark events! Absolutely beautiful space!
Some of the in-depth discussion included the following points. If you missed the event and have something to say about any of the following topics, please join our Freelancers Union Spark Hive. We’d love to hear your thoughts and make this an ongoing conversation.
-Basic elements to include in your contracts
-How to bill your clients
-Can sue for damages if a client doesn’t pay?
-Is legal action worth it?
-What counts as intellectual property?
-Ownership of work once created
-What is and how to use licensing
-Native files and who owns them
Interested in attending our events? Mark your calendars for every first Wednesday of the month! Our next event is 10/5 • 7PM-8:30 at Flying Fish Brewery in Somerdale, NJ for Happy Hour! While most of our events are based on specific freelance life topics, next month is a time for us to grab a drink (really good beer, by the way, if you haven’t visited Flying Fish Brewery – now’s your chance!) and network in a relaxed atmosphere. RSVP today – Events are always FREE to attend! See you then!
