The Things That Happen When You’re Busy.
Ugh! I just hit send on my 3rd quarter newsletter and I feel awful.
After many times proofing, I caught a GLARING mistake… too bad I had already hit send! Glaring, as in, the mistake was in massive, bold, header type! Not regular sized body copy. I used “your” instead of “you’re.” It’s the type of mistake that makes me question people when they make it. It’s so easy to figure out which to use in a sentence! But here I am. Feeling like a bit of an idiot for sending my embarrassing mistake out to my entire list.
After freaking out a bit about it, I realized (with the help of some good friends) that this is a great opportunity to share what not to do when you’re busy. I would normally send out a test email to another viewer, but instead I proofed it myself – quickly – because I felt I needed to get it out ASAP. This was a terrible mistake. Why couldn’t I wait for someone else to have a look? Would it really have taken THAT long? Probably not.
These are the types of things that can happen when we’re juggling too many things at once — or simply trying to spread the word too quickly about an event we’re VERY excited about. There are many moving parts to putting on a successful event, and while I feel like I’m keeping up with them, I think this was my reminder to SLOW DOWN. Maybe this will be a conversation for the new community/monthly event we’re building, SELF-Philly. Hopefully, it’s a story we can all discuss and relate to at our first event.
Anyway, there’s my story about the time I made a HUGE typo in my newsletter. I hope you enjoyed it.
