Weekend Tidbit 4/10

What a great week! The sun finally came out and I was loving it! A little chilly today on the East Coast, but still bright outside.

Some good news, links, and other tidbits to share:

I’ve created a new logo piece I’ll be adding to the portfolio section of my site that I designed for the lovely Miss Dolly Dahl. It takes a lot for me to add work to that section as I’m my own worst critic, but when the job involves complete creative freedom and exploration, the process is just as rewarding as the final product itself. I’ll break down my approach as I did with the Neil Gaiman / Molly Crabapple piece I finished last week. I had a great time working on the logo. Look for it in the portfolio section in the next of couple weeks — can’t wait to see it in use!

Plans are finally underway for my poster / greeting card project! The first part of the process will begin next week! I can’t wait! This project will allow me to produce for myself as well as explore new printing options for my clients. The work will focus on utilizing my illustration skills while incorporating my love for design. I’m very excited to get started!

Have you heard about Operation NICE? If not, I urge you to check them out. They are a fabulous organization promoting random acts of kindness. They’ve been around for almost 2 years and are now looking into becoming a non-profit organization. They are in the running for Pepsi’s Refresh Everything campaign and need your help! If they win, they will receive a 25K grant to turn Operation NICE into a full-fledged non-profit organization, to create NICE Tool Kits which can help others spread kindness and to organize workshops for youth to teach the importance of being nice. Please vote (you can vote once a day until April 30th) and please spread the word about this wonderful organization and opportunity – it would be very nice. :)

Designing a Typeface, With Illustrator and FontLab, from Start to Finish – Part 1 — I have been interesting in learning about the process of designing typefaces. This post popped up in my feed this week. Pretty good stuff!

And finally, a photo I received from a client showing the business cards I created for him in action. Receiving mail like this really makes my day! I had a good laugh. That’s Steve and Jamie from Kettering PC Support hamming it up for the camera. Love it!
